Why the E?

HCS stands for Hanley's Consulting Services. So what's the E doing at the end of hcse.au?

We've heard some theories.

• It's for Excellence.
• Or Expertise.
• Or maybe Enthusiasm.
• Entrepreneurial? Sure.
• Empathy? On a good day.
• Extraordinary? That seems like a stretch.

The real answer:

It stands for Etcetera.

Also, hcs.au was taken.

The longer, truer answer

There have been three HCS's. There has only ever been one Hanley.

• 1992. Gary starts in IT at BGC, then contract work for MacMahon, Wesfarmers and the Water Corporation.
• 1998. Hanley's Computer Services opens its doors — sole trader, no website, all word of mouth around Perth.
• The company years. The business incorporates as HCS Enterprises and puts up its first address: hcse.com.au. That E has been part of how clients reach us for longer than a lot of Perth businesses have been trading.
• Today. Hanley's Consulting Services — same founder, now with a Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security from ECU behind the advice, and a cyber security practice sitting alongside the managed IT.

Three names, 28 years, one phone number. The letters have shuffled around a bit. The person who answers when you call hasn't.

So we keep the E. It's the part of the name that's been there the longest.
